Every piece that leaves the Tilde Woodworking studio carries a bit of my story: a blend of traditional craftsmanship, contemporary design, and a deep respect for the materials I work with.
How It Started
I've been drawn to woodworking for as long as I can remember. What started as a childhood interest slowly turned into a real craft I cared about. After high school, I joined a local woodworking shop, where I spent four years learning the craft in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
Those early years were formative. I eventually became the head carpenter and later spent two more years at other shops building custom furniture and cabinetry. That time shaped the way I work today and taught me the value of precision, good materials, and thoughtful design.
There's something fundamentally satisfying about transforming rough lumber into a finished piece. The way grain reveals itself as you plane a board, the precision required to cut clean joinery, the challenge of balancing form and function. These details hooked me early and haven't let go.
The Philosophy Behind Tilde
Tilde Woodworking exists because I believe we need alternatives to disposable furniture and mass-produced accessories. My work combines clean lines, honest materials, and precise joinery to create pieces that balance form and function with lasting integrity.
I work exclusively with solid hardwoods (walnut, cherry, maple) because they're beautiful, durable, and honest materials. No veneers hiding particle board. No shortcuts that compromise longevity. Just wood, joinery, and finishes that protect without hiding what's underneath.
Sustainability isn't a marketing angle for me. It's how I run the business. Responsibly sourced materials, finishes that are safe for you and the environment, and building things meant to be used for decades, not years. We prioritize FSC Certified Wood Products whenever possible to support responsible forestry and prevent deforestation.
The Studio
I grew up in a small town, but in 2020 I moved to Colorado Springs. This is where Tilde Woodworking was born. I started it because I love creating things with my hands and wanted to share that passion through pieces that feel thoughtful, honest, and long-lasting. I met my wife, Gillian, here, and we now live in Colorado Springs with our two pets.
Based here in Colorado Springs, I design and build everything by hand in my studio. When you buy from Tilde, you're getting something I personally selected the wood for, cut, shaped, finished, and inspected.
That hands-on approach extends to the tools and processes I use. I'm constantly refining techniques, building custom solutions to improve precision, and experimenting with new approaches to age-old woodworking challenges. Some of my best problem-solving happens when I'm trying to figure out how to cut a specific joint more accurately or finish a piece more efficiently without sacrificing quality.
Why I Do This
My goal is simple: make quality work that people can enjoy for a lifetime. If it's built with care, it shows.
At its core, woodworking is about creating value that lasts. A well-made cutting board serves you for years. A solid wood table becomes part of your family's story. A phone stand that still looks great after a decade of daily use. That's the kind of impact I want my work to have.
I'm not trying to scale this into a factory or compete with mass production. Tilde is about quality over quantity, craftsmanship over efficiency, and building relationships with people who value the same things I do.
Every piece I make is a conversation between me, the wood, and ultimately you (the person who'll use it). That connection is why I do this work, and why every detail matters.
